LEARN MORE ABOUT THE DRY EYE CENTER
Dry eye syndrome is a chronic, multifactorial, progressive condition that manifests as a lack of secretion of sufficient amounts of tears or changes in their quality.
Definition
Dry eye syndrome is a chronic, multifactorial, progressive condition that manifests itself as a lack of secretion of sufficient amounts of tears or there are changes in their quality. All this results in insufficient moisture in the eyes. Although it is not always possible to eliminate the cause that leads to the occurrence of this syndrome, the Promedica Ophthalmology polyclinic has a solution for the treatment of dry eye.

Causes of dry eye
The modern lifestyle that includes prolonged work in front of a computer, driving a car, exposure to artificial light sources, wearing contact lenses, and air conditioning increases the possibility of dry eye syndrome.
Dry eye syndrome can occur at any age, but it is most common in people over the age of 50.
Symptoms of dry eye
Symptoms include a stinging, burning, gritty, or foreign body sensation in the eyes. Dry eye can also lead to discomfort and fatigue due to irritation and damage to the tear film. Depending on the severity of dry eye, symptoms can include pain (headaches) and sensitivity to light.
Treatment
Today, there are a large number of artificial tears available on the market from different manufacturers and with different compositions. Before taking any artificial tears on your own, you should have an examination by an ophthalmologist to determine exactly which layer of the tear film is missing or of reduced quality, thus determining the exact composition of the artificial tears that could help in your specific case.
Very often, in patients whose dry eye symptoms persist for a long period of time, dry eye drops have minimal or no effect in soothing the irritating symptoms. In this case, it is necessary to undergo additional examinations by an ophthalmologist and, depending on the cause of the symptoms, to select the appropriate treatment.

Smart glasses
Until recently, available treatments for amblyopia (lazy eye) included wearing glasses, using eye drops, visual therapy exercises, and most effectively, wearing an eye patch. Although the eye patch has proven to be the most effective solution, it can still lead to some side effects such as:
Danger of a healthy eye turning into a lazy eye as a result of wearing a patch;
Excessive patch wear can affect the normal circulation of tears through the eye;
Possibility of an allergic reaction to the patch; The patch itself may cause an increase in eye temperature if worn for a long time;
Difficulty in compliance because parents have to adhere to a strictly defined time for applying and removing the patch.
Most importantly, the child faces social stigma that can affect his normal psychological development.
Vidi Smart glasses work on the principle of forcing the lazy eye to work properly. The dominant eye is gradually closed by a special glass made of liquid crystals, with the closure occurring at specifically determined and adjusted time intervals. The main task of these glasses is very similar to an eye patch. The difference is that with these glasses the lazy eye is closed regularly and electronically.
Vidi Smart glasses will help your child get used to the lazy eye treatment more easily. These glasses are unique and one of a kind in the world.
Numerous international clinical studies testify to the effectiveness of this treatment for amblyopia. Side effects have not been described.
Amblyochorus-01-3
The method of restoring visual functions proposed by us is based on biofeedback self-regulation, in conditions of a closed loop: the retina of the eye – cortical centers of the visual analyzer – video-computer system. The method is based on the principle of adaptive biocontrol.
During the treatment, the patient is in front of a TV screen on which an interesting video is played. An electroencephalogram (EEG) is recorded with the visual projection from the cerebral cortex. Using a special mathematical analysis, we calculate oscillations of activation of neurons in the visual cortex, which characterize the quality of vision or its decline. The TV screen showing the film is played during periods of better quality of vision and is turned off when the state of the visual cortex is characterized by a decrease in the quality of vision.
A person’s normal motivation is to watch an interesting movie without breaks. The patient’s brain subconsciously looks for ways to increase the time of watching the movie without any breaks, so it reorganizes the work of the visual cortex, thereby creating constant neuronal activation. During daily repetitions of this procedure (usually 10-20 sessions lasting 15-30 minutes), the patient’s brain gradually forms new reflex connections providing a higher level of visual functions, with a stable increase (in amblyopia and hyperopia) or decrease (in myopia) of neuronal excitability of the visual cortex.
Thus, the normal functioning of the visual cortex of the brain is restored and visual functions are significantly improved. The novelties and advantages of this technique are the possibility of restoring visual functions through correction of the bioelectrical activity of the visual cortex.
For the first time, we offer a method for the rehabilitation and restoration of residual visual function in children with congenital and hereditary diseases of the retina and optic nerve, with secondary refractive and amblyopic cortical disorders, which overlap with the presence of organic disorders. This is achieved by improving the localization of the retinal part that receives visual information, i.e. bringing it closer to the center in case of failure of the faveolar and macular regions, by forming new connections between the retina and the visual cortex, and by cortical-subcortical reprogramming.
The main advantages of this method are:
It can be used in younger children starting from the age of 3, as well as in high school students and even adults. Its effectiveness does not depend on the patient’s age, the time of starting treatment, or the duration of the existing disease;
it is absolutely safe, does not cause additional damage to the retinal neuroepithelium compared to light methods and can also be used in patients with organic damage to the optic neuroretina;
when using this method there is no enhancement of paroxysmal EEG activity which allows us to treat patients with combined neurological pathology (after consultation with a neurologist);
The restoration of visual acuity may be repeated depending on the deterioration of visual functions related to the patient’s age;
It is fun in nature and is not accompanied by painful or unpleasant feelings in the patient, so both children and adults attend visual correction sessions with great pleasure.
Eye-Light
What is Eye-Light® dry eye treatment?
Eye-Light® is a revolutionary solution in the treatment of dry eye. In a painless way, using IPL technology, it stimulates the work of the glands responsible for secreting the lipid part of the tear film. This leads to stabilization of the tear film and longer retention of tears on the surface of the eye.
Eye-Light® simultaneously treats the lower and upper eyelids. It is a non-invasive treatment that does not even require the application of gel during the process, thanks to the patented and unique cooling module.
In addition to dry eye syndrome, Eye-Light® treatment is also used in patients after cataract surgery, refractive surgery, chalazion, blepharitis, as well as post-blepharoplasty.
How is the Eye-Light® treatment performed?
Before each treatment, special diagnostic tests are performed to record the condition and degree of dry eyes, and thus to be able to evaluate the result of the treatment itself. These diagnostic tests are short and quite comfortable and painless for the patient.
The treatment is fully automated and begins with just 5 painless light shots (OPE/IPL) around the eye and on the lower eyelid, which causes blood vessels to contract, thereby increasing blood flow and increasing the secretion of anti-inflammatory cytokines.
This is followed by a treatment with Meibomask®, which is also a painless treatment and lasts only 15 minutes. This treatment directly activates the Meibomian glands, the LED matrix causes the creation of endogenous heat and ATP production in the eyelids, the blockage of the glands is removed and the lipids complete the composition of the tear film. The improved presence of lipids prevents the rapid evaporation of tears. The results are visible to the patient after just the first treatment!
Parasol® punctal occluder
WHAT IS PARASOL® PUNCTAL OCCLUDER?
As the name suggests, these devices occlude (block) the punctum, or tear duct, which is the drainage channel that drains tears from the surface of the eye. There are upper and lower ducts in the inner corner of each eye. Blocking these drainage channels prevents tears from drying out too quickly. The procedure can be compared to placing a stopper in the drainage channels, which keeps tears on the surface of the eye for a longer period of time. This widely performed procedure is safe, quick, painless, and fully reversible.
Occluders are made of very soft, flexible silicone, similar to that used in contact lenses. Although barely visible to the naked eye, they are carefully manufactured into an extremely smooth and precise design.
WHY CHOOSE PARASOL® PUNCTAL OCCLUDER?
The Parasol® Punctal Occluder is a leader in dry eye treatment, due to its unique patented design that allows for easy, painless insertion and comfortable, worry-free adjustment. Its excellent retention rate means it is designed to stay in place and work effectively to relieve dry eye symptoms.
The Parasol® Punctal Occluder is one of the most advanced devices available. Its unique, patented shape is easy to insert as it automatically adjusts to the patient’s tear duct opening.
In addition, the advanced design allows for a true custom fit, which in turn means greater patient comfort. The Parasol® Punctal Occluder can also reduce or eliminate a major cause of discomfort for many contact lens wearers or those who cannot tolerate contact lenses.
