LIGHTMED LIGHTLAS SLT

Technology

Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is a safe and effective laser treatment, a standard procedure in the treatment of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). The treatment is indicated for the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP) associated with glaucoma.

The SLT laser targets only the pigmented cells in the trabecular meshwork of the eye. This increases the drainage of aqueous humor from the eye, thereby reducing the patient’s intraocular pressure. The short laser pulses of the SLT laser allow for targeted treatment without any damage to the surrounding healthy tissue. The procedure usually takes only a few minutes.

Most patients do not feel any pain after the SLT procedure. Sometimes, mild discomfort or inflammation may occur, which is normal and quickly resolves with the appropriate therapy prescribed to patients.
What is important to note is that SLT treatment does not lead to a cure for glaucoma, but is also part of the standard procedure for reducing intraocular pressure (IOP) by 25-30%, and this reduction lasts for several years.

This therapeutic procedure allows patients to function more easily on a daily basis because it reduces or in some cases completely eliminates the need for eye drops to regulate intraocular pressure.

The SLT procedure has been proven safe and can be repeated multiple times without significant side effects.
